Moate Business College Testimonials - Lalia Tamosune (Business & Tourism 2010/11)

I did FETAC level 5 course at MBC in Business and Tourism.  This is a great foundation course for those looking to change their career (like me back in 2010) or school leavers who did not do that well in their exams and need better points for CAO.  Staff were all very supportive and knowledgeable and all subjects delivered to highest standards.  For me, the opportunity to do 3 week placement abroad was a huge benefit of this course.  I hope this is still part of the course and I would encourage students to definitely do it.
I very much enjoyed the course and having passed all my exams with distinction (which was not that hard with a bit of effort and determination to do well) I had maximum points for CAO.

Although, I had the perfect opportunity to pursue a further studies in business with the likes of Trinity College Dublin, I knew what I was going for in CAO: Dublin Institute of Technology, 3 year Tourism Management course.
Enjoyed the course, again big part of this course was 6 month industry internship during my second year in college.  It was 2013 The Gathering year.  I managed to do two internships that year: one in Offaly County Council -as a gathering coordinator and the other one in Dublin with one of tour operators: dealing with corporate and incentive travel into Ireland.  At the end of last placement I was offered a job and I stayed with the company for almost two years as business development executive in Eastern European markets.  In between I was involved in a couple different projects in DIT. i.e. I took part in contributing to the first "Jobs with Languages" fair organised by Grad Ireland to highlight the importance of foreign language skill in our business world today.

Long story cut short: During my first 3 years in DIT I was awarded 3 times student of the year and on graduation last year awarded best overall student in BA Tourism Management group.

I did not stop and did the add-on year in BSc Tourism Management, expected 2.1 this summer.

Studied full time, worked in Dublin and now in Mullingar, commuted to college, have two kids and other family commitments.....so for those who think or say this is impossible, please reassure them -ANYONE CAN DO IT!

I am currently working fora tour operator based in Mullingar, but this is just another step in my career. I look forward pursuing more challenging career and one where I can realise my full potential including foreign language skills.

Just one last note -the connections and contacts I have made over these years are priceless.
