Recently our Tourism students visited Newgrange, a Stone Age (Neolithic) monument in the Boyne Valley, County Meath. This visit formed part of their Irish Culture and Heritage module.
Newgrange is a 5,200 year old passage tomb located in the Boyne Valley in Ireland’s Ancient East. A passage leads into a chamber with 3 alcoves. Newgrange is best known for the illumination of it’s passage and chamber as they are aligned with the rising sun on the mornings around the Winter Solstice.
During the visit students had the opportunity to visit Brú na Bóinne Visitors Centre and learn all about the history and establishment of Newgrange.
A very enjoyable, informative and worthwhile trip was had by all!
