On the 18th September, Creative Media students from Moate Business College took their first field trip of the year and travelled to Emo Court and Parklands in Co. Laois. Photography is a key module on the Creative Media course and this location provided the perfect setting for the budding photography students.
As well as its idyllic setting in Emo, Frank Browne’s world famous album of photographs from the first stages of the Titanic’s fateful maiden voyage was also on exhibit. Frank Browne travelled from Southampton to Cherbourg and Cherbourg to Cork on board the ship and, indeed, may have had a lucky escape when he was refused permission to stay on board and travel on to New York.
His other photographic images represent a unique record of social history in Ireland, particularly from the beginning of the 20th century, and his chronicling of ordinary people going about their everyday lives has left a lasting legacy.
This was a very inspiring and creative way to commence the student’s year studying Creative Media in Moate Business College.
