Beyond the Classroom: Erasmus+ Through a Student Lens

This year, learning at Moate Business College went far beyond the classroom walls. For 20 students, education took on a new meaning as they stepped into workplaces across Europe, embracing the opportunities offered through Erasmus+ KA121 mobilities.

From the vibrant streets of Málaga, Spain to the cultural richness of Timișoara Romania, and the historic charm of Vilnius Lithuania, students immersed themselves not just in work placements, but in entirely new ways of living and learning. They navigated unfamiliar environments and adapted to different workplace cultures.

Each placement told its own story. Some students found themselves in a gym developing personal training skills. Others stepped into elderly care settings, where patience and care shaped their daily experiences. In other environments, such as a state penitentiary or a centre supporting autistic children, students witnessed the powerful impact of support services, rehabilitation, and inclusive practice.

Behind office desks and within cultural institutions like international language schools, students gained insight into the structure of professional life across Europe—learning that work can look very different depending on where you are in the world.

But perhaps the most important learning didn’t come from the placements themselves. It came from the moments in between—navigating new cities, communicating across language barriers, and building friendships. These experiences challenged students to grow in confidence, independence, and resilience.

As they returned home, they brought with them more than just experience—they carried new perspectives, a greater sense of possibility, and stories that will stay with them long after their time abroad.

The Erasmus+ journey is not just about where you go, but who you become along the way.

International Collaboration in Action: Erasmus+ Visit to Moate Business College

Moate Business College was delighted to welcome two Vocational Education and Training (VET) teachers from Poland to Moate Business College as part of their Erasmus+ job shadowing mobility.

During their visit, our guests had the opportunity to observe a wide range of teaching and learning practices within our Healthcare Department. From engaging student presentations offering an overview of our courses, to hands-on practical classes in our specialised skills simulation room, it was a fantastic exchange of ideas and experiences.

It was truly a wonderful and enjoyable experience for both our visitors and staff. We are proud to be part of such meaningful European collaboration, sharing knowledge and best practices in education.
